favorite things, august 2017

It’s a new month, and I’m currently on a mini-vacation at a local lake, so what better time for another edition of “favorite things?” Here’s what I’m loving lately.

the cast iron skillet

Everyone else around the internets is obsessing over the Instant Pot, but I’m over here fan-girling over the humble cast iron skillet. I can’t stop marveling at how well our cast iron skillet retains and evenly distributes heat. I’ve been making frittatas with some regularity lately, so I think that’s what started this infatuation, but I’m now cooking pretty much everything in the ole skillet. I’d like to have a few others on hand in smaller sizes, so I’m saving up some Amazon rewards points for that purpose. Dreaming big, y’all.

WorkoutLabs

I’ve been trying to step up my strength training game lately, and WorkoutLabs has been a big help in that endeavor. I stumbled upon the site in a recent Pinterest search and discovered a treasure trove of workout routines for several muscle groups. I like having so many different exercises to choose from to avoid boredom. And Seth tells me that he’s noticed a difference in my shoulders…not that he’s biased or anything.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Admittedly, I’m still a bit of a beauty neophyte (as I near the age of 30…), but I think I’ve finally found a winner of a mascara. I’ve been testing out different drugstore brands of mascara for  years with no luck. I recently saw someone recommend this brand, so I bought the mini size to try it out…and it’s looking promising. It’s a little pricey (the mini size was $12 at Ulta), but I guess this is yet another example of you get what you pay for.

sunflower seeds

My latest food obsession is sunflower seeds. I’ve been putting the roasted + salted kind on my salads pretty much daily—there’s something about that salty crunch that I’ve craving lately. They’re rich in unsaturated fats of course, but they’re most notable for being an excellent dietary source of vitamin E. So I use that as justification for the spoonfuls of (unsweetened) sunflower butter I’ve been eating too.
