It’s been about six weeks since my last toddler eats post, and even in that short time frame, it seems that Caleb’s taste preferences and appetite have shifted. So, I thought it might be a good time to share another typical day of eating for him at age 2 years + 2 months.
breakfast:

low-carb waffles w. apples + unsweetened sunflower seed butter
snack:

string cheese
lunch:

tortilla w. hummus + tomatoes
snack:

2% milk
dinner:

Whole Foods smorgasbord (cauliflower mac + cheese, black beans, sweet potatoes, broccoli, corn, tomatoes)
A few notes:
- Several weeks ago, Seth was flabbergasted when Caleb pointed to a box of frozen waffles at the store and asked what they were. For the record, he’s definitely had them before, but it has probably been a year since I served one to him, for no particular reason. So I made a big batch of this recipe and froze them for future use. He seems to like them (even without syrup!), so I’ll be doing that again in the future.
- Caleb doesn’t seem to like milk all that much anymore. I typically send two cups’ worth to daycare, and they have been consistently coming back to me half-full. So I’ve been offering different calcium sources, including string cheese, as an alternative.
- This kid suddenly loves tomatoes, which is weird to me because I didn’t grow to like them until well into adulthood. After a moderate serving like this one, he almost always asks for “more ‘matoes!”
- We went to Whole Foods for dinner, and we just picked a few items out from our hot bar/salad bar boxes that he might like. He devoured the mac + cheese first (no surprise there) and ate most of the rest with a little coaxing.
