It has only been three weeks since my last house update, but the pace has picked up again so that a lot of changes occur between our weekly visits. I have quite a stockpile of photos to share, so I figured a post was in order! May (thus far) has consisted of trim installation and painting (both exterior and interior). We’ve encountered a few delays, mostly due to the cabinets we selected being back-ordered–without those, it’s difficult to install tile and flooring. There have also been a few errors on the builder’s part (e.g., missing or incorrectly placed electrical outlets), which slow things down slightly. Nonetheless, we hope to have a closing date soon so that we can start planning our move…

Here are the latest changes since the end of April:

May 3rd, 2020: Interior trim has begun, and more doors have showed up on the premises, including the set that will connect the master bedroom to the master bath. The stairs are looking more like stairs now, and we have the beginnings of our “cubbies” by the garage entry.

May 10th, 2020 (Mothers’ Day!): A few elements of “personality” are starting to appear in the home, and obviously the exterior has been painted! The room with the built-in bookshelves and double doors will be my future office, so I’m excited to see that start to come together. Beams are up in the great room, which will be stained later on.

May 17th, 2020: We’re getting set up to have our driveway poured this week. Other little exciting details include door hardware and the first coat of paint throughout the interior of the house. The great room beams have been stained a rich walnut color. Remember when I said I changed my mind at the last minute about our hardwood floors? It was because I wanted the floors to coordinate with these beams 🙂 The cubbies pictured below are actually an example of an error. We explicitly asked for three cubbies, not two (and I have documentation of that fact), so we just sent an e-mail to our builder to ask for this to be corrected ASAP. Unfortunately, I’m guessing they’ll have to re-do these.

At last check, the builder estimated that our home would be move-in ready by mid- to late July, which is fine by us, as we still have not sold our current home (#thankscorona). Here’s hoping the real estate gods smile upon us in the coming weeks so we can take that stressor off our minds and begin the planning process for our move!
